Following the devastating storm that left the community members of eMkhondo without roof, businesses destructed and infrastructure damaged, The MEC for COGHSTA, Speed Mashilo, with his team and accompanied by the Mkhondo Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu, and other key representatives from the National Human Settlements, held a meeting with municipal officials and stakeholders at the Municipal Council Chambers today.
The purpose of the meeting was for the MEC to receive the disaster assessment report on the damage caused by the devastating hailstorm that hit eMkhondo on Sunday, 10 November 2024.
The Acting Municipal Manager – D.P. Msibi, presented the report on the areas affected by the storm and further outlined the actions taken by the municipality in repairing the damages and also the support provided to residents affected by the disaster.
The report also included the kinds of assistance required to further address the crisis, which are funds to compensate those who were affected, to rebuild Municipal infrastructure, and to provide social welfare needs (e.g food parcels, blankets, etc) as we rebuild eMkhondo town and surrounding areas together.
