ANT-FRAUD, ANTI-CORRUPTION AND ETHICS WORKSHOP AWARENESS

Mkhondo Local Municipality Councillors sat in a workshop facilitated by the MLM Risk Management Office where presentations from the Office of the Premier, Special Investigation Unit (SIU), HAWKS and Gert Sibande District Municipality were being delivered today, 04 April 2024.

The promotion of professional ethics in hopes of ensuring governance that will advance public service, benefiting the community was the order of the day. “Ethics provide accountability between the public and the administration”. 

Ethical behaviour as the bridge between right and wrong, is encouraged as desired common practice to prevent corruption, fraud and disservice to the communities.

Reporting unethical conduct, suspicious activity, inclusive of lifestyle changes, misappropriation of institutional funds, are amongst points raised by the presenters as policies were conveyed to the councillors to ensure effective action in favour of the municipality and its people.

 

 

 

LETSEMA SERVICE DELIVERY PROGRAMME IN AMSTERDAM

The Executive Mayor of Mkhondo Local Municipality, Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu together with the Speaker of Council, Cllr. Mduduzi Ngwenya; Whip of Council, Cllr. Daniel Thwala; Members of Mayoral Committees, Councillors, and Municipal Officials as part of the Letsema Programme, conducted project visits to construction sites and monitoring of progress on rehabilitation of infrastructure in Amsterdam today, 03 April 2024. 

A brief status report of ongoing projects as well as those soon to commence was, outlined by appointed contractors. 

The projects visited were Gabosch Dam construction site, followed by the Clearing of a Stormwater Drainage and Fixing of Street and High Mast Lights in the area.

The Letsema Programme will continue in the other parts of Mkhondo in efforts to accelerate service delivery.

MKHONDO LOCAL MUNICIPALITY LAUNCHES ROAD SAFETY EASTER HOLIDAY CAMPAIGN 2024

The Mkhondo Local Municipality announced its plans for a bumper Easter holiday filled with events and visitors,with its safety declaring readiness.

As a gateway municipality an influx of tourists are expected to its shores which will impact on road usage.

On the 28th of March2024, Mkhondo Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Ngelosi Ndhlovu together with members of the Mayoral Committee and Councillors officially launched the safer easter weekend together with the Department of Public Safety and Liaison and the South African Police Service. 

The launch was in the form of a roadblock launch at the N2 Paulpietersburg T-junction. The Executive Mayor used this platform to call on traveller's to be responsible, obey the rules of the road and to not drink and drive. 

The launch included the reading of vehicles of residents, scanning of number plates for any tickets or theft and general inspections on roadworthiness using our evoTracker Roadblock system which has assisted in the collection of outstanding fines; execution of outstanding warrants of arrests and the finalisation of traffic ticket cases.

LAUNCH OF THE EASTER SEASON ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN 2024

Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga accompanied by Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Mr Vusi Shongwe, Gert Sibande District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Walter Mngomezulu, Mkhondo Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu, Inkosi Mthethwa from Madabukela Traditional Council, CEO of RTMC Adv. Makhosini Msibi, Local Pastors, and Traditional Healers to launch the Easter Road Safety Campaign today, 20 March 2024 at Mandla Magudulela Stadium in Ward 13.

The first session of the programme commenced with an Easter Road Safety Prayer at Ajax Truck Stop and Cashbuild intersection, which was led by Mkhondo fraternities.

The campaign was meant educate and enforce road safety rules to communities due to the increased number of road injuries and fatalities caused by increased traveling across the country during the Easter Season.

In support of the campaign, positive messages of support were shared by the Truck Association, Small Buses Association, SANTACO, Mkhondo Traditional Leaders, and MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison.

The Minister, in her keynote address urged road users to be vigilant during this Easter period and beyond.

 

SCHOOL UNIFORM AND ELECTRIFICATION PROJECT HANDOVER IN WARD 09 

Mkhondo Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu, accompanied by the Acting Municipal Manager, Mr Mtha Mkhonza visited Cana Combined School today, 14 March 2024, with the purpose of reaching out and providing aid to under-privileged learners.

The MMC for Community Services Cllr. Walter Vilakazi, and MMC for Technical Services Cllr. Mary Thwala, Ward 9 Councillor, Cllr. Thokozani Manana, Ward committees and School Governing Body members were also present, in support of handing over the donated packages aimed at restoring confidence in learners through uniform appearance.

"KwaKhisela community to benefit from an Electrification Project through Eskom"

The entourage proceeded to KwaKhisela community to hand over an electrification project with the purpose of improving the lives of the residents through service delivery.

Executive Mayor expressed her gratitude to the residents for being patient with the municipality pertaining their long waited outcry for electricity. She also voiced out how frustrating and costly it is to be in a situation where you have to buy meat for a day just because you do not have a fridge to store enough. She then concluded by officially handing-over the project to the residents.

Thuli Madonsela from Eskom introduced the contractor to the community and edged them to work with the contractor, not to temper with the material and equipment to be delivered. She emphasized that a fine for illegal connection of electricity will be charged should you be found connected illegally, and also pleaded the residents not to distract the project in anyway and the Kotana contractor outlined the number of temporal workers that will be required for the project, and also the payment rate for 'umgodi' of different sizes.

One resident, on behalf of the community expressed their warm gratitude and happiness for the service the municipality has delivered for them.

Indeed service delivery is the Municipality’s priority to its communities.

 

DAY 2 OF MKHONDO LOCAL MUNICIPALITY 2024/25 ANNUAL STRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP

Today, 13 March 2024 marks the 2nd & last day of the Mkhondo Local Municipality’s 2024/25 Annual Strategic Planning Workshop, where all the six commissions formed yesterday delivered their presentations outlining the factors, priorities, goals, and objectives that will assist the municipality in identifying actions to be considered in planning and improving service delivery which will focus on citizenry engagement in order to exercise good governance.

The Communication unit was also given a platform to present and enforce the use of the correct standardised municipal corporate identity(image). The municipal organogram was not left behind as it was offered by the HR management, outlining the structures and functions of each department, including those of the political bearer.

The Executive Mayor of Mkhondo Local Municipality Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu wrapped the session up by encouraging stakeholders in attendance to continue with the spirit of inspiration for the benefit of the community, and she further saluted every stakeholder present for making these 2 days exercise a success in promoting our municipal vision which is a Model Municipality of Excellence. #ServiceDeliveryIsOurPriority

DAY 1 OF MKHONDO LOCAL MUNICIPALITY 2024/25 ANNUAL STRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP

Mkhondo Local Municipality undertaken its 2 days (12-13 March 2024) Annual Strategic Planning Workshop for the 2024/25 financial year at Welverdiend Guesthouse and Conference Center yesterday, 12 March 2024. Today, 13 March 2024 marks the 2nd and last day of the workshop.

The Strategic Planning was aimed at planning and creating a capacity needed to be able to deliver the much needed and required services to the community of Mkhondo.

Amongst the important reasons of undertaking such an exercise as a municipality, firstly, was to present the Status Quo reports of the Mkhondo Local Municipality and eMkhondo’s jurisdictions based on the population statistics (Census 2022), level of education, economic growth, SMME’S Concerns, Core Industrial practices which was presented by STATS SA representative in conjunction with Mkhondo Local Municipality’s statistics & SERO done by Zweli Lushaba.

Mr S’thembiso Nkabinde outlined the Public Participation (Community’s needs) pertaining service delivery which were, Boreholes, Water & Sanitation, Stormwater drainages, Electrification of households especially in rural areas, RDPs, Youth Centres and TVET College to name a few.

The DDM approach which is the fundamental of the IDP Plan and Economic Reconstruction & Recovery Plan were presented by Mr Mtha Mkhonza. It was then followed by the Municipal Financial overview delivered by Mr Stephen Chavarika and He further outlined the challenges that contributed to the financial distress position (status) of the municipality with a host of Financial Indicators performing below the Norm which were unfunded budget for 2023/24 FY, Eskom Debts & Department of Water Affairs. He concluded his speech by announcing the Municipal Audit outcome report for the 2022/23 financial year, he said the municipality maintained its Unqualified Audit Opinion (2022/23 FY), and is working towards a Clean Audit.

The Mkhondo Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Ngelosi Ndhlovu had set a tone of the gathering with mouthful information as the country’s observing the Human Rights month. She also outlined the concerns that hinders quality & sustainable service delivery; bad performance, capacity building, Target not met to name a few.

Fostering a collaborative spirit and paving ways for a more sustainable future; various stakeholders were in attendance, the likes of Gert Sibande District Municipality, Mkhondo Local Economic Development Forum, Department of Social Development, Department of Correctional Services, SARS (Customs), IEC, STATSA, Department of Human Settlements, Jindal mining and the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs.

Beyond planning ahead, the session fostered an environment where participants gained insights into the latest municipal status quo and actively generate solutions to challenges and encouraged collaboration through the Six (6) Commissions formed that were key on discussions:

  1. People Development.
  2. Economic Positioning.
  3. Spatial Restructuring and Environmental Sustainability.
  4. Infrastructure Engineering.
  5. Integrated Services Provisioning.
  6. Governance.

ELECTRICITY PROJECT HANDOVER AT CONGO VILLAGE

Mkhondo Local Municipality MMC for Technical Services, Cllr. DM Thwala and Ward Councilor, Cllr. TW Manana, in partnership with Eskom today, 05 March 2024 visited the community of Congo Village  in Ward 9 to handover an electricity project.

 

COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAY CELEBRATED IN HARMONY PARK COMBINED SCHOOL

Mkhondo Local Municipality through Environmental Management Unit today, 04 March 2024, visited Harmony Park Combined School to celebrate Community Clean up Day with the purpose of encouraging learners about the importance of looking after the environment.

The celebration collaborated amongst community based stakeholders to show active interest in environment management. The visit also involved cleaning up of the school premises and planting of trees.

ORDINARY COUNCIL MEETING - 28 FEBRUARY 2024

Mkhondo Local Municipality held it's Ordinary Council Meeting at Council Chambers today, 28 February 2024. The meeting was chaired and directed by the Speaker of Council, Cllr. Mduduzi Ngwenya.

Number of items related to service delivery were presented to council for noting and approval.
