As part of ongoing efforts to foster unity and social cohesion, Mkhondo Local Municipality, under the leadership of Executive Mayor Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu, successfully hosted a Traditional Healers Stakeholder Engagement today, 04 June 2025 at the Skyfin Community Hall.
This engagement created a vital platform for traditional healers to share their lived experiences, best practices, and the challenges they encounter in serving the community throughtraditionalhealing. The session also highlighted their integral role in public health and community well-being.
Recognising the deep-rooted significance of traditional healing in local culture and healthcare, the municipality reaffirmed its commitment to incorporating traditional practices into the broader health framework—advancing a holistic, inclusive, and culturally respectful approach to wellness.
The event featured dynamic and meaningful discussions, with traditional healers actively contributing insights and solutions. This open dialogue paved the way for stronger collaboration, future partnerships, and more inclusive health strategies.
In her closing remarks, Executive Mayor Ndhlovu emphasised the municipality’s commitment to supporting traditional healing systems and strengthening their place within local development plans. She also outlined actionable steps toward deeper cooperation and mutual recognition between traditional and formal healthcare sectors.
The Executive Mayor was accompanied by members of the Mayoral Committee, including MMC Thembi Khumalo, MMC Walter Vilakazi, and MMC Mthandeni Mkhabela, whose presence further demonstrated the municipality’s collective support for this initiative.
