Mkhondo Local Municipality, through its HIV and AIDS Unit, successfully held a Local AIDS Council session at the Mkhondo Council Chambers on 25 March 2026.
The purpose of the session was for stakeholders to present their community-driven programmes and share best practices, while fostering further discussion on collaborative efforts to combat HIV/AIDS-related issues in Mkhondo.
The session was chaired by the Acting Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mthandeni Mkhabela together with the Chairperson of the Civil Society in Mkhondo, Mlamuli Khumalo.
The HIV Coordinator, Ms Nondumiso Mavimbela presented LAC reports reviewing the progress made by organisations and departments in achieving their goals for the previous year, 2025.
Among the stakeholders present were traditional healers, the Department of Health, the Department of Social Development, the Shelter Movement, Mondi, MLM councillors, Community Development Workers(CDWs) and other essential community organisations.
