On 15 April 2026, the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Hon. Dr MR Mhaule, accompanied by the Mkhondo Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. NC Ndlovu, conducted an oversight visit to KwaShuku Secondary School and KwaMatshamhlophe Primary School.
The purpose of the visit was for the Deputy Minister to monitor the state of teaching and learning at both Kwashuku Secondary School and KwaMatshamhlophe Primary School in the Mkhondo East District.
The programme was chaired by East Circuit Manager Mr Luthuli, while school overviews were presented by the respective principals, Ms Nkosi and Ms Mncube.
This visit forms part of ongoing school monitoring programmes within the Mkhondo area. During the engagement, several challenges were identified, and a way forward was outlined to address these issues.
The Office of the Chief Whip from the Gert Sibande District Municipality also made a donation to Kwashuku Secondary School, which included laptops, printing paper, and sanitary towels.
Attendees included MPL Hon. R. Nkonyane, MLM Councillors, DMT Mr Phako, Chief K.S. Hlatshwayo, and other government officials.
