On 24 April 2026, the South African Municipal Wellness Association District Games came alive as they were proudly hosted by Mkhondo Local Municipality. The tournament was held across various sports grounds in eThandukukhanya.
Mkhondo Local Municipality teams performed exceptionally well in all the sporting codes demonstrating dedication and hard work, earning themselves the title of champions of the SAMWA District Games 2026 in five of their sporting codes, namely: Pool, Soccer, Netball, Tug of War, Volleybal Male and Female, and a number two (2) medal in Darts sporting code.
Five municipalities, including Gert Sibande District Municipality participated on the games and showcased teamwork and unity as employees gathered to promote wellness through sport and recreation. From friendly competition to building stronger connections, the games highlighted the importance of a healthy and balanced workforce.
A powerful reminder that wellness, teamwork, and community spirit are at the heart of local government.
