On 20 May 2026, the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, in collaboration with the Gert Sibande District Municipality, held a public consultation regarding the naming of the GSDM Disability Public Library at the Mkhondo Municipal Town Hall.

The purpose of the public consultation was to introduce the transformed GSDM Disability Public Library to the community. The state-of-the-art facility has been designed to cater to persons with disabilities, including children with autism.

It is equipped with advanced assistive technologies and specialised resources aimed at improving accessibility and promoting inclusive learning opportunities for all members of the community.

The library has been renamed from the GSDM Library to the “Dr John Zulase Mgidigidi Sambo Library.” It is situated within the Gert Sibande District Municipality.

The event was attended by Mkhondo Local Municipality councillors, GSDM councillors and officials, Community Development Workers, Ward Committees, as well as members of the community.
