The MEC for Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation – Ms Leah Mabuza has officially opened the long awaited eThandukukhanya Public Library in Mkhondo, Mpumalanga on 06 November 2025. The library was handed over to the Mkhondo Local Municipality and its residents, to properly utilize it. The newly rebuilt library features modern facilities, including a study area, computer lab, and free Wi-Fi with internet connectivity, aiming to enhance learning, literacy, and access to information. Acting Executive Mayor Cllr Mary Thwala expressed gratitude to MEC Mabuza and urged residents to protect the facility.
MEC Mabuza encouraged the community to utilize the library’s resources, highlighting its potential to assist young people with university applications, job searches, and academic work. She also warned against sabotaging public property and emphasized the importance of preserving the facility for future generations.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Gert Sibande Acting Executive Mayor, representatives from government departments, and local traditional leaders, eMkhondo Schools together with the community of eThandukukhanya and surrounding areas.
