On 26 November 2025, the Mkhondo Local Municipality, in partnership with Eskom, officially handed over an Electrification Project at eNgubevu in Ward 9, which will be beneficial to 21 households. The meeting was successfully conducted by the Ward Councillor, Cllr. TW Manana.
The Acting Executive Mayor, MMC for Technical Services, Cllr. Mary Thwala, expressed appreciation to Eskom and highlighted that this project reflects the Municipality’s commitment to providing quality service delivery, particularly for people living in rural areas.
Furthermore, Councillor Thwala emphasised that this project would bring significant positive change to the community and create employment opportunities for local residents, particularly the youth.
Project Coordinator, Thuli Madonsela from Eskom, stated that the project is fully funded by the government to improve the lives of those in rural areas by providing them with access to electricity. She urged the community of eNgubevu to protect the infrastructure and report any suspicious activity, as the loss of even one item could prevent some households from receiving electricity.
Community members were also given an opportunity to express their voice regarding the project. They shared their joy and appreciation to the municipality, especially the Ward Councillor.
The delegation was led by the MMC Technical Services, which included MLM key officials and Eskom representatives, Community Development Workers and Ward 16 Councillor – Cllr. TM Qwabe.
