DAY 2 OF THE OVERSIGHT VISIT BY DEPUTY MINISTER OF BASIC EDUCATION, HON. DR MR MHAULE AT ZENDALINGSPOST COMBINED SCHOOL AND ENGAGEMENT WITH THE MKHONDO TAXI ASSOCIATION AND LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS STAKEHOLDERS

On 16 April 2026, the Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Dr M.R. Mhaule, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Hon. J Nemadzinga-Tshabalala, and the Speaker of the Mkhondo Local Municipality Council, Cllr. MZ Ngwenya, conducted an oversight visit to Zendalingspost Combined School.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the state of teaching and learning at the school.

The session was chaired by DMT representative Mr Pako, while the school overview was presented by the principal, Mr T.W. Shabalala.

This visit forms part of ongoing school monitoring programmes within the Mkhondo.

During the engagement, several challenges were identified, and a way forward was outlined to address them. The school also received a donation of school shoes from the Department of Education.

Attendees included MPL Hon. R. Nkonyane, Chief Whip of the Gert Sibande District Municipality; Cllr. Mtshali, MLM Councillors, Mkhondo West Circuit Manager; Ms Khanye, and other government officials.

Later on the day, Deputy Minister Dr Mhaule and Mkhondo Local Municipality Speaker of Council Cllr. M.Z. Ngwenya engaged with the Mkhondo Taxi Association and Local Small Businesses at the Council Chamber.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and addressing key challenges affecting local economic development. Stakeholders raised concerns about complex business registration processes, lack of proper trading shelters, and the operation of foreign-owned businesses without proper documentation.

The Municipality ensured the attendees that they will attend to the concerns and provide appropriate support.
