Today, 16 February 2026, The Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Dr. MR Mhaule, accompanied by Mkhondo Local Municipality conducted a follow-up visit to Piet Retief Combined School to assess the progress made since her initial visit, where several areas of concern were identified.
The purpose of the visit was for the school principal and heads of department to present reports outlining the improvements made and action plans implemented to address the challenges identified during the previous assessment.
Hon. Dr. Mhaule encouraged the principal and educators to maintain strong working relationships and to promote unity and collaboration among staff members.
Attendees included the MMC for Community Services, Cllr. JM Nkosi; MMC for Planning and Economic Development, Cllr. TE Khumalo; MPL Hon. Randy Nkonyane; Cllr. MZ Thomo; Cllr. NG Gwebu; Mkhondo East Circuit Manager, Mr. Luthuli; the School Principal, Mr. Soko; Heads of Departments; officials from the Department of Education, and School Governing Body representatives.
