FROM GRAVEL TO SUSTAINABLE PAVED ROADS AT KWA-THANDEKA AMSTERDAM, eMKHONDO

The Kwa-Thandeka main access road in Amsterdam has undergone a significant upgrade, transforming from a gravel surface to a durable, well-paved road that prioritizes safety, sustainability, and accessibility. This project is part of the municipality’s commitment to sustainable rural development and improving everyday lives of the residents.

The highlights of the projects includes:

Road Surface: 3.6km of interlocking paving blocks for a long-lasting, low-maintenance road surface

Stormwater Management: V-drains installed for efficient stormwater management and prevention of road flooding

Water Flow Control: Kerbs and channel inlets support controlled water flow where needed

Road Integrity: Stormwater pipes laid to prevent water damage and strengthen road integrity

Safety Features: Road markings applied for enhanced navigation and road safety, and road signs erected to promote safety and compliance

Erosion Protection: Stone pitching installed to protect against soil erosion and support embankments.

These projects demonstrate the ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and road conditions for thw betterment of the communities everyday lives and easy flow of economical movement.
