The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) recently convened its Integrated Development Plan (IDP) consultation at the Mkhondo Local Municipality Town Hall on 05 September 2025. This important event brought together key stakeholders to identify and assess developmental challenges, prioritize urgent needs, and formulate strategies to address them effectively.
The IDP consultation provided a valuable platform for community members, government officials, and stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions about the municipality’s development priorities. Chaired by GSDM Executive Mayor, Cllr. Walter Mngomezulu, the session was attended by MLM Acting Executive Mayor, Cllr. T.E Khumalo, MLM Speaker of Council, Cllr. Mduduzi Ngwenya, and other dignitaries.
Key Objectives of the IDP Consultation highlighted the following:
- Identify Developmental Challenges, Assess the municipality’s developmental challenges and prioritize urgent needs.
- Formulate Strategies, Develop effective strategies to address developmental challenges and improve the lives of community members.
- Foster Community Engagement, Encourage community participation in municipal planning and decision-making processes.
IDP consultations play a critical role in ensuring that municipal development plans are aligned with community needs and priorities. By engaging with stakeholders, the municipality can develop effective strategies to address developmental challenges and promote sustainable development.
The GSDM’s IDP consultation demonstrates its commitment to promoting sustainable development and addressing community needs in Mkhondo Local Municipality.
