The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) on 18 November 2025 conducted an official oversight visit to the Gabosch Dam construction site in Amsterdam, assessing progress on the multi-million-rand water infrastructure project, currently in Phase 04.
The visit was conducted in collaboration with the Mkhondo Local Municipality MPAC.
The project aims to improve water security and service delivery within the Mkhondo area. GSDM Executive Mayor, Cllr. Walter Mngomezulu, expressed confidence in the project’s progress, anticipating full completion by October 2026.
The delegation, including GSDM and MLM MPAC members, received briefings from project engineers and officials, and observed construction activities firsthand during a site tour.
The visit reinforced the committees’ mandate to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper expenditure of public funds on major municipal projects.
