MEC FOR AGRICULTURE, RURAL DEVELOPMENT, LAND AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS EMPOWERING WOMEN

On 25 August 2025 The MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land, and Environmental Affairs, Ms. Khethiwe Moeketsi, handed over 19 Jojo tanks to Mkhondo Local Municipality to boost agricultural development across the municipality. Each of the 19 wards will receive one Jojo tank to support local farmers in improving their agricultural productivity and sustainability.

MEC Moeketsi on her remarks emphasized the vital role of women in development, urging that women in agriculture and rural development be given priority and space in all sectors.

The Jojo tanks aim to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability among local farmers. The MEC inspected the progress of the Agri-Hub facilities, highlighting the importance of infrastructure in supporting local farmers.

The two more stakeholders who benefited from this initiative included:

Alpha and Omega School, which received one Jojo tank and two smart box kits to support their agricultural development, and

Mam Zwane in Amsterdam who also received a Jojo tank, tree seedlings, and backyard garden seeds to promote household food security and sustainable gardening practices under Ward 05.

The attendees included Izinduna ZamaKhosi, Ward Councillor, Cllr Nhlanhla Gwebu,  officials from Department of Agriculture and Mkhondo Local Municipality, and Local farmers.

This initiative demonstrates the department’s commitment to empowering women in agriculture and supporting local farmers in Mkhondo.
