On 5 February 2026, Mkhondo Local Municipality convened an engagement meeting with the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) at the Municipal Council Chambers. The meeting was formally chaired by the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu.
The purpose of the engagement was to deliberate on critical employment-related challenges being experienced by SANRAL on the ongoing N2 road construction project and to collectively identify sustainable solutions and a clear way forward.
The engagement further emphasised the importance of strengthening communication between the Municipality, SANRAL, and the project management teams in order to enhance coordination and ensure transparency throughout the implementation of the project.
The meeting was attended by the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu; Chief Whip, Cllr. Daniel Thwala; Speaker of Council, Cllr. Mduduzi Ngwenya; Members of the Mayoral Committee; the Municipal Manager, Mr Mthandeni Mkhonza; LED Manager, Advocate Howard Vilakazi; Target Groups Manager, Mr Mbhekeni Simelane; as well as SANRAL officials.
