Mkhondo Local Municipality, in collaboration with Mondi and the Amsterdam Environmental Center hosted two build-up awareness campaigns ahead of the upcoming Arbor Day celebration. The first campaign took place at Nqobile Primary School on 12 September 2025, and the second one at Qhubekani Primary School on 15 September 2025 under the theme “Our Planet, Our Responsibility”.
The campaign aimed to promote awareness about the importance of planting and nurturing trees, highlighting the significance of Arbor Month. By engaging with the community, the municipality seeks to educate residents about the value of trees in maintaining a healthy environment and mitigating the effects of climate change.
The event was led by Mr. Vusiwe Dube, Senior Manager for Environmental Management and Social Development, and attended by officials from the municipality’s Water and Sanitation Department and representatives from the Environmental Unit. The collaboration with Mondi and the Amsterdam Environmental Center demonstrates the importance of partnerships in promoting environmental sustainability and conservation.
The campaign’s objectives include promoting tree planting, environmental education, and community involvement. By working together, the municipality and its partners aim to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among community members, contributing to a greener and more sustainable environment.
