MKHONDO LOCAL MUNICIPALITY HOSTS GBVF AWARENESS SESSION

On 17 September 2025, Mkhondo Local Municipality convened a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Comprehensive Awareness session at kwaThandeka Community Hall in Amsterdam. The event aimed to educate the community on critical social issues, including GBVF, teenage pregnancy, mental health, and crime prevention.

The session provided valuable information on services offered by various departments and organizations. It also sought to bridge the gap between boys and girls, promoting equality, inclusivity, and mutual respect.

Attendees were encouraged to report cases of GBVF and access available support services.

Stakeholders in attendance included Government Departments: Department of Social Development, Department of Health, and South African Police Service (SAPS); Municipal officials; Organizations: GRIP, Love Life, Positive Women Network; Community Members and others.

The event emphasized the importance of community engagement and participation in addressing GBVF and promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity. By working together, the community and local authorities can create a safer and more supportive environment for all.
