The Mpumalanga Department of Education MEC, Ms Lindi Masina, together with the Executive Mayor of Mkhondo Local Municipality, Cllr. Ngelosi Ndhlovu, officially launched the Provincial Second Chance Matric Programme on 24 January 2026, at Inqubeko Secondary School in Mkhondo.
The Provincial Second Chance Matric Programme aims to provide individuals who did not pass the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, as well as those who wish to improve or obtain a matric qualification, with a renewed opportunity to achieve their NSC. Through this programme, registered participants will attend scheduled classes designed to support and prepare them for rewriting their examinations.
The Mpumalanga Department of Education has confirmed that the programme is offered free of charge, ensuring accessibility for all eligible candidates. Participants are permitted to rewrite the examinations until they successfully obtain their National Senior Certificate.
The launch highlighted the Department’s commitment to improving educational outcomes and expanding opportunities for learners who wish to complete their matric qualification.
The launch was attended by officials from the Mpumalanga Department of Education, representatives from the Gert Sibande District Municipality, Circuit Managers from both the East and West Circuits, Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs) from Mkhondo Local Municipality, and various school principals.
In support of this programme, there are further educational institutions who were presented, including Rosebank Private College, Mpumalanga Regional Training Trust (MRTT) and Ehlanzeni TVET College (NelspruitCampus).
