On 18 March 2026, Mkhondo Local Municipality, through its Environmental Unit and in partnership with other environmental key stakeholders conducted a clean-up campaign at Welverdiend.
In preparation for the Greenest Municipality Competition/programme and in commemoration of Global Recycling Day, the Environmental Unit, together with various stakeholders, took proactive steps towards environmental sustainability by conducting this clean-up campaign.
This initiative not only improved the physical environment but also raised awareness about the importance of proper waste management and environmental responsibility.
In marking Global Recycling Day, the campaign placed strong emphasis on recycling and waste separation, further highlighted the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste, as well as the positive impact these practices have on protecting the environment and conserving natural resources.
The Community Work Programme (CWPs), Mondi, Dardlea, Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency representatives and Ward Committee members actively participated in the campaign
