“Our Planet, Our Responsibility” – A Decade of Impact in Action
On 3 June 2025, the Mkhondo Local Municipality (MLM) Environmental Unit took an active step toward environmental sustainability with the launch of its build-up programme ahead of the much-anticipated 10th MLM Environmental Summit.
Carrying the theme “Our Planet, Our Responsibility,” the day’s activities focused on practical environmental action, setting the tone for what promises to be a landmark event marking a decade of local environmental impact.
In an inclusive community effort, the build-up programme involved grass cutting and the removal of alien invasive plant species in the vicinity of Grotto Restaurant, Waterside Lodge – a popular local spot now benefitting from revitalized surroundings.
The programme was led by Mr. Vusiwe Dube, Senior Manager for Environmental Management and Social Development, who emphasized the importance of proactive stewardship and community involvement in preserving local ecosystems.
“This is not just about cleaning a space. It’s about instilling a culture of environmental responsibility and creating a legacy of action that protects our natural heritage for future generations,” said Mr. Dube.
The initiative is part of a broader series of events leading up to the summit, which has become a cornerstone in Mkhondo’s environmental calendar.
As the community looks forward to this year’s milestone event, celebrates a decade of environmental progress, community engagement, and the unwavering commitment to build.
