Mayor Ndhlovu was delivering an acceptance speech after being elected unopposed by the majority following a special council sitting at Mkhondo Local Municipality. Mayor Ndhlovu replaces former Mayor Mthokozisi Simelane. She said the state of service delivery in Mkhondo Municipality, calls for business unusual considering the concerns that the municipality had not been delivering services as expected in the first two years of the five-year term.

“Time is not in our hands, we are already in the second year of the term of office. Therefore, we are not here to make promises of service delivery, but to bring much-needed services to the citizens of Mkhondo. This new council is by the people for the people, and I stand here with the promise to the citizens of Mkhondo that we will engage, listen and serve them with excellence,” said Mayor Ndhlovu.

She further invited the business sector and all relevant stakeholders to a renewed working relationship in rebuilding the municipality. She added that economic development would be their focus.

“Our youth and the community at large are looking to us to create business and fight unemployment. Businesses are looking to us to improve the roads, electricity, water and sanitation, and waste management. Investors are expectant and it will be for our gain to put things in order,” said Mayor Ndhlovu.

The Executive Mayor also conveyed her condolences to the families of the slayed two councilors and two community members. She strongly condemned political related killings saying Mkhondo Municipality should remain a stable, peaceful and progressive municipality stating that justice will prevail and those responsible for the brutal killing would be fully brought to book.

“I know without a shadow of doubt that if we set aside our political differences, we can revitalize our municipality and bring it back to life. We owe this to the law abiding citizens of our town,” said Mayor Ndhlovu.

She further announced the following members of the mayoral committee; Cllr. Mthandeni Mkhabela as MMC for Corporate Services, Cllr. Thembi Khumalo as MMC for Planning and Economic Development, Cllr Thokozani Manana as MMC for Financial Services, Cllr. Walter Vilakazi as MMC for Community Services, and Cllr.
