Today, 13 April 2024, Mpumalanga Legislature through its representatives and Mkhondo Local Municipality representatives, together with Ward 03 Councillor, Ward Committees, Community Development Worker, visited the community of Ward 03 at KwaNgema Youth Centre, with the purpose of conducting a voter education workshop, educating community members on the procedures and processes of voting.

The Legislature Is conducting these workshops as its Constitutional Mandate to engage in public participation, petitions, oversight and education on voter registration procedures, and it mainly focuses on rural communities, encouraging residents to participate in the upcoming National, Regional and Provincial Government Elections on the 29th of May 2024.

It was outlined that in the upcoming voting election 2024, there are 3 ballot papers to be used with different colours representing National, Regional and Provincial ballot paper. Ballot 1 is for the NATIONAL to vote for political party to represent you in the National Assembly. Ballot 2 is a new ballot for REGIONAL to vote for political parties or independent candidates contesting in that region (Province) for elections to the National Assembly. Ballot 3 is PROVINCIAL to vote for political parties or independent candidates contesting elections of the provincial Legislature in that province. It was also mentioned that, you will only receive three ballots and not just two as in the past elections, if you vote at the voting station where you are registered.

Community members were urged not to put emojis when voting for their political parties, not to make a cross of more than one when voting, and it was also said that voting for more than one party is not allowed, and they were asked to check for the validation of the ballot by checking for a stamp at the back of the ballot paper to avoid your paper being counted as a spoiled vote.

They were also reminded the importance of voting, saying that, If you are 18 years and older, is your Constitutional responsibility to participate in the democracy by electing a party or a leader to lead the country on your behalf. Residents were requested to bring their ID card, ID book or Temporal IDs.
